Kaberamaido Man Detained for Allegedly Killing Son Over Food Dispute

Kaberamido, Uganda | Police in Kaberamaido District are holding a 50-year-old man accused of killing his 18-year-old son following a domestic dispute over food.

The incident, which occurred on September 10, 2025, in Olabo village, Kamuk Parish, Kaberamaido Sub-county, left residents in shock after what police described as an avoidable tragedy.

According to the District Police Commander, SP David Otabong, the altercation began when the deceased, identified as Ebwalu Joseph, returned home late at night and asked his mother for food.

She reportedly told him there was nothing left, since his father had consumed all the fish caught from the lake earlier in the day.

This sparked a confrontation between father and son, during which the suspect allegedly picked up a hoe and fatally assaulted his child.

The suspect is currently detained at Kaberamaido Central Police Station as investigations continue.

Police confirmed that the case has been registered under CRB/36/11/09/2025, and once inquiries are complete, the file will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.

If convicted, the suspect will face murder charges, which under Uganda’s Penal Code Act carry a maximum penalty of death.

Police have assured the public that justice will be pursued, while the community continues to grapple with the loss of a young life in a dispute that authorities say could have been avoided.
