Lira, Uganda | Two people have died following a tragic road accident on Juba Road in Lira-City West Division on Thursday evening, 11th September 2025.
According to SP PJ Okema, Public Relations Officer for the North Kyoga Region, the accident occurred around 8:30 PM near the Ober Road junction.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a Bajaj motorcycle, registration UDZ 717W, carrying a man and his wife, was traveling from Lira-City towards Kamdini when the rider attempted to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road.
In the process, the rider lost control, veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with a fuel tanker, registration KCP 773P/ZF 8452, coming from Kamdini towards Lira-City.
Both the rider and his passenger died instantly at the scene.
Police officers from both the Central and City West Divisions responded promptly.
The two deceased have not yet been identified and have been taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Both the motorcycle and fuel tanker have been impounded at the Lira City West police parking yard for inspection.
SP Okema said the driver of the motorcycle is still at large and appealed for him to report to any police station to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
