Dokolo, Uganda | In a commendable act of service, Omoding George Rotary, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Dokolo South, has launched a borehole rehabilitation campaign aimed at improving access to clean and safe water across Kangai Town Council.
The initiative, which officially commenced on June 20, 2025, has already resulted in the successful repair of over ten boreholes within a span of just two days.
Beneficiary areas include Ilong Cell in Akurulango Ward and Akuri Cell in Angai Ward, where residents have long struggled with broken-down water sources.
For several months, communities in these areas were forced to rely on unsafe and distant water alternatives due to malfunctioning boreholes.
Many of the facilities had rusted pipes and worn-out rods, posing serious health hazards.
According to local technicians, repairing a single borehole requires new pipes and rods, each set costing approximately 120,000 UGX.
Omoding stated that his primary goal is to ensure that every resident in Dokolo South has access to clean water.
He affirmed his commitment to continuing the repairs until all broken boreholes in the constituency are fully restored.
Local leaders have welcomed the intervention. Mr. Okwanga Sam, the Chairman in charge of Borehole Maintenance in Ilong Cell, and Okwir Nyony, the NRM Chairman, both thanked Omoding for prioritizing the community’s most urgent needs.
They emphasized that the repaired boreholes have already made a significant difference in residents’ daily lives.
Community members, visibly excited by the restoration of their water sources, expressed appreciation for the project, recognizing the critical role clean water plays in promoting health and well-being.
LC5 Councilor for Kangai Town Council, Hon. Okuja Santos, also lauded Omoding’s efforts.
He said that the aspirant’s actions clearly demonstrated that he is working for the people, and pledged his support along with that of the community.
Omoding’s initiative is widely viewed as a practical and people-centered approach to leadership, focusing on immediate solutions to longstanding challenges faced by rural communities in Dokolo South.
