Bank of Uganda Trains Leaders in Kaberamaido on Financial Literacy

Kaberamido, Uganda | The Bank of Uganda (BoU) has trained more than 50 leaders in Kaberamaido District on financial literacy, with a focus on improving household income and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The five-day training, which concluded on Friday at Kaberamido Hotel, brought together Parish Development Model (PDM) coordinators, Community Development Officers (CDOs), and religious leaders. It was organized by BoU in partnership with Hon. Jane Francis Amongin, the NRM flag bearer for Kaberamaido Woman MP seat in the 2026 general elections. James Bukulu, the Deputy Director of the National Payment System, represented the Governor of Bank of Uganda at the closing ceremony. He said the training was designed to empower leaders to make informed financial decisions and help them guide their communities on proper financial management. Bukulu added that participants were trained on loan management, insurance, savings culture, investment, retirement planning, digital financial literacy, financial consumer protection, and working with financial service providers. Amongin, who previously served as Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Moroto District, explained that the training was her initiative, which she lobbied from the central bank to benefit the people of Kaberamaido. She also appealed to BoU to support participants with income-generating projects that can transform their households and fight poverty. She further challenged those who acquired the knowledge to go back and become good ambassadors of financial literacy within their communities. Some of the participants who spoke to Dokolo Post expressed gratitude for the skills gained, saying they were now better prepared to manage finances, embrace a saving culture, and guide their communities towards financial stability. Diocese of Lango Dismisses Fake Letter Barring Catholics from Speaking at Anglican Events

Lira, Uganda | The Diocese of Lango has distanced itself from a letter circulating on social media which allegedly directs that no Catholic should be allowed to speak at any event presided over by the Anglican Church. In a statement dated September 12, 2025, and signed by diocesan secretary Hudson Ogwali, the diocese described the letter as fake, malicious, and intended to sow divisions between the Catholic community and the Diocese of Lango. Ogwali outlined six reasons why the diocese could not have authored the letter. Among them, he noted that the so-called “Rev. Canon James Okaka” mentioned in the fake document does not exist in the diocese. He clarified that the Very Rev. Ven. James Okaka serves as the Provost, Bishop’s Commissary, and Archdeacon of Boroboro Cathedral Chapter. He stressed that the Diocese of Lango does not subscribe to any political affiliation except through the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda. He also pointed out that the Church of Uganda has no diocese called Lango Diocese and that the correct name is Diocese of Lango, further exposing the forgery. Ogwali explained that, by policy, no archdeacon is permitted to communicate diocesan policy positions to another archdeacon or parish priest, as that mandate rests only with the Bishop or the diocesan administrator. He urged the public to disregard the fake letter, noting that it contravenes the canon law governing the Church of Uganda. He further advised politicians and candidates to avoid divisive propaganda and instead promote unity, reminding them that leadership is determined by God for every season. Source

NRM Youth Launch Nationwide Campaign to Secure 13 Million Votes for Museveni in 2026

Kampala, Uganda | The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League has launched a nationwide campaign aimed at mobilising 13 million votes for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2026 general elections. The initiative, unveiled on Thursday, 11 September 2025, at Katikati Restaurant in Kampala, brought together NRM Youth League chairpersons from 151 districts across Uganda, under the umbrella Youth for Museveni. According to National Coordinator Nakku Fiona, the campaign seeks to consolidate youth support for the president, emphasising that Uganda’s youth form the majority of the population. She explained that the strategy would begin with training NRM Youth League chairpersons on effective mobilisation methods. She further noted that the campaign would include subregional tours, direct engagement with young people, and the presentation of development-oriented ideas. Fiona also said that leadership structures would be established at regional and district levels to ensure that the mobilisation drive was well coordinated. Bugisu Subregion Youth Caucus Chairperson, Nimrod Kakayi pointed out that 71% of NRM’s membership is aged between 18 and 35, which he said translates to about 13 million Ugandans. He stressed that, if properly organised, this group could guarantee electoral victory for President Museveni. Lira City Youth League Chairperson Brian Yeko Ongora, popularly known as Awi-Awobe, explained that the Kampala launch was part of a wider effort to unify and energise young people ahead of the polls. He said that mobilisation would take place at every level—regions, districts, subcounties, and villages, ensuring that no area was left behind. Ongora expressed confidence that the youth had the energy and determination to deliver the targeted 13 million votes. He urged young people across Lango, Acholi, and the rest of Uganda to rally behind Museveni in 2026. In response to concerns about financing, Ongora clarified that the campaign was not receiving government funding. He said the effort was voluntary and motivated by what young people viewed as the President’s role in improving security, empowering youth, and appointing them to positions in government. The launch of Youth for Museveni marks the beginning of a structured mobilisation drive by the NRM Youth League ahead of the January 2026 general elections, with a strong focus on grassroots engagement and youth-led leadership. UNATU Warns Officials Against Intimidating Teachers During Strike

Kampala, Uganda | The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) has cautioned government officials against intimidating or harassing teachers as they embark on a nationwide strike scheduled to begin on September 15, 2025. In a September 11 circular, the union noted that Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), Town Clerks, and other government representatives have in the past threatened teachers who participate in industrial action. UNATU said such intimidation is unlawful, counterproductive, and only serves to escalate tensions within the education sector. The union stressed that the strike is a legally protected action backed by both national and international labour regimes to which Uganda is a signatory. It argued that teachers were being unfairly targeted for demanding salary harmonisation, despite other civil servants in selected categories having benefited from pay enhancements since the 2022/2023 financial year. UNATU explained that it suspended a similar strike in July 2022 to allow for negotiations, but three years later, government had failed to offer a clear plan for addressing the disparities. The union said teachers had waited patiently, yet government had “remained indifferent,” leaving industrial action as the only remaining option. The circular also advised parents not to send their children to school during the strike and warned school administrators against keeping learners at institutions without teachers, saying they would be held accountable for any incidents. The looming standoff raises concerns of possible clashes between education officers enforcing government directives and striking teachers who insist they are exercising their rights. Analysts warn that if not handled carefully, the deadlock could further strain relations between the teaching profession and state authorities. The statement was signed by Mr Baguma Filbert Bates, UNATU General Secretary. Source

Kaberamaido Leaders Caution Against Tribal Politics as Tensions Rise

Kaberamido, Uganda | Kaberamaido Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Godfrey Nyakahuma, has cautioned against the growing use of tribal sentiments in politics, warning that the trend poses a direct threat to peace, security, and development in the district. The RDC on Wednesday convened a high-level meeting with security organs and NRM structures following reports that some political actors are deliberately advancing tribal narratives to mobilise indigenous groups against one another. In attendance were Assistant RDCs Arikos Peter and Adakun Rashid, the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), the District Police Commander (DPC), NRM party flag bearers both winners and losers councillors, and other district leaders. Officials at the meeting observed that sectarian mobilisation not only undermines community harmony but also weakens the ruling party’s structures and diverts attention from service delivery and development priorities. They further warned that divisive politics risks providing fertile ground for opportunists to exploit and manipulate communities. The leaders, under the guidance of the RDC, unanimously condemned tribal and sectarian tendencies. NRM party structures resolved to focus mobilisation efforts on unity, peace, and development while rejecting identity-based propaganda. Security agencies also pledged to closely monitor and take firm action against individuals inciting divisions. The RDC’s office will coordinate sensitisation drives across Kaberamaido to counter tribal narratives and promote social cohesion. Leaders at the meeting recommitted themselves to supporting President Yoweri Museveni’s mobilisation agenda anchored on peace, inclusivity, and prosperity for all communities. Nyakahuma underscored that tribalism and sectarianism remain direct threats to both security and development, adding that no single tribe can deliver progress in isolation, but together, the people of Kaberamaido can achieve peace, stability, and prosperity. Ogwal Omara Warns Handout Politics is Stifling Development in Lango

Dokolo, Uganda | Joseph Jones Ogwal Omara, the NRM flag bearer for Dokolo North Constituency, has called on voters and political leaders in Lango to move away from handout-based politics, describing it as a major obstacle to sustainable development. Ogwal Omara noted that the “no money, no vote” mentality has turned elections into a cycle of cash handouts, leaving long-term development in the background. He said commercialised politics is harming the rural micro-economy by making communities dependent on campaign-season spending rather than encouraging creativity and self-reliance. During recent NRM primaries in Dokolo North and South, billions of shillings flowed into the area, benefiting local businesses and service providers. However, this temporary influx of cash has not translated into lasting development. “…Political seasons bring money, but they also stifle innovation. People stop thinking about how to improve their own livelihoods because they expect politicians to provide everything…,” Ogwal Omara explained. The flag bearer further highlighted that many rural residents now view politicians as the primary source of income. Discussions and initiatives that could drive local development are often overshadowed by the focus on election campaigns. Ogwal Omara urged a shift toward manifesto-driven politics that prioritizes accountability and tangible service delivery. He warned that unless communities in Lango take charge of their own development, they will lag behind other regions where residents actively pursue entrepreneurial and innovative solutions to escape poverty. “…Relying on handouts from politicians undermines democracy and social progress. A focus on service delivery and community-driven initiatives is the real path to sustainable development…,” he said. Ogwal Omara won in the Dokolo North NRM primaries based on his six-pillar manifesto subdivided into 22 action areas, which resonated with the electorate and enabled him to defeat opponents who relied on large sums of money. He delivered a message of hope to the people and urged other politicians to adopt the same approach to lift Lango out of poverty. Many now foresee Ogwal Omara as a transformative leader who, once in parliament, will drive massive development through his grassroots approach to politics, as opposed to populism rooted in money politics. Deputy RDC Mathias Lutwama’s Study Examines Key Pillars of Museveni’s Long Reign

Alebtong, Uganda | A study by African nationalist Mathias Lutwama (Deputy RDC Alebtong District) has outlined four key pillars that he argues define President Yoweri Museveni’s long reign; education and skills training, military capacity, gender inclusion, and community-level economic transformation. According to Lutwama, Uganda’s investment in technical and vocational training has been central to Museveni’s vision of industrialisation. By September 2025, the country had established 1,418 Technical, Vocational and Educational Training Institutes (TVETs). These institutions offer courses ranging from mechanics and architecture to welding and civil engineering, which he describes as “a market password to industrialisation and a practical statement of the NRM’s vision.” On security, Lutwama points to annual cadet recruitment into the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), where at least 9,000 new entrants join each year. He notes that the recruits come from diverse professional backgrounds such as law, economics, medical, education, and engineering, which he says has created “a foundation for a first-class African army.” The study also highlights Museveni’s record on gender inclusion, linking it to the principle of affirmative action. Lutwama argues that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has opened opportunities for women across leadership structures, including cabinet, parliament, corporations, and civil society. He contends this has gained admiration beyond Uganda’s borders. Economically, Lutwama draws attention to the Parish Development Model (PDM), a flagship government initiative designed to stimulate grassroots growth. By 2025, all 10,595 parishes in Uganda had been allocated an annual sum of 100 million shillings. Lutwama says this has boosted crop and animal husbandry, positioning parishes as drivers of local production. He frames these initiatives against global intellectual traditions, citing Lee Kuan Yew’s emphasis on education in Singapore’s rise, Mao Zedong’s theories of warfare, and the London School of Economics’ concept of building welfare states through market feasibility. Lutwama concludes that Museveni’s leadership blends ideology, security, gender empowerment, and grassroots economic policy, factors he believes explain President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s enduring influence in Uganda’s political landscape. Police Dog Helps Nab Over 30 Suspects in Dokolo

Dokolo, Uganda | Police in Dokolo District have credited a sniffer dog with aiding the arrest of more than 30 suspects linked to various crimes across the district. Between January and August 2025, the canine unit at Dokolo Central Police Station tracked and helped apprehend 30 male suspects, according to Cpl. Alex Odeke, an officer in charge of the unit. The cases range from theft and murder to arson and other criminal activities reported in different parts of the district. Cpl. Odeke said the sniffer dog has eased investigative work by helping law enforcement identify and arrest suspects more efficiently. He, however, urged residents to always preserve scenes of crime, warning that tampering with evidence can frustrate investigations. Police have also announced that on Friday, September 12, 2025, a public demonstration will be held at Dokolo Central Police Station to showcase how the sniffer dog operates. Source
